Glossary of terms

Use this page when a word in Loyal Guru could mean more than one thing. These are the product terms. If an older document or integration still uses a legacy name, the glossary shows the current wording.

Customer and accounts

TermMeaning
CustomerThe shopper or member. Never call this person a “client”.
UserA person who logs into the Owner App to configure the program, send campaigns, or help a Customer. A User is not a Customer.
RoleThe permissions attached to a User: which modules they see and which actions they can do.
CompanyThe retailer or brand tenant in Loyal Guru.
Owner AppThe Loyal Guru web console where Users work.
Enrolled customerAn identified Customer who is a member of the loyalty club.
Non-enrolled customerAn unidentified Customer who is not a member of the loyalty club.
Customer statusActive (can earn, spend, and be targeted), Inactive (blocked from loyalty), or Merged (historical profile after a merge). Fraudulent is a flag on an Active Customer, not a status.
MergeTwo profiles are the same person. History and balance move to the destination; the source becomes Merged.
AssociationA link between two Customer profiles (household, extra card, or related account). Each profile keeps its own balance and Vouchers. Use Merge when they are the same person.
AudienceA saved group of Customers used for targeting. Do not call this a segment in product docs.
Card / identityHow checkout recognizes the Customer (loyalty card, app id, email, or phone).
TierA rank in the loyalty program (for example Gold) with its own benefits.
LocationA store or site in Company Data. Carts and campaigns can be limited by location.

Checkout and promotions

TermMeaning
CartThe shopping transaction sent to Loyal Guru (POST /carts). Never call this a basket, a ticket, or a session.
ProductAn item in Company Data (SKU or barcode) that can appear on a cart line.
TaxonomyHow products or stores are grouped (brand, category, supplier). Campaigns target a taxonomy, not a household.
Promo EngineLoyal Guru evaluates the cart and can calculate the final discount amounts.
Coupon ServerLoyal Guru decides eligibility and validates coupons or Vouchers; the POS or e-commerce system calculates the final price.
Discount campaignA price-reduction campaign in the Loyalty and Promotional engine. This is the mechanic, not the send.
CouponA code configuration on a discount: one shared code for everyone, or a per-customer code.
VoucherThe Customer–discount link with a unique assignment. Targeted and AI campaigns create one Voucher per Customer.
RedemptionUsing a Voucher, coupon, reward, or cashback on a cart.
Points & WalletThe module where Customers earn balance (on carts or events) and spend it. Earn, burn, cashback, tiers, and referrals live here.
CashbackThe Customer spends wallet or points balance as money off the cart at checkout. It is not a Discount campaign.
RewardA catalog item the Customer exchanges for balance, outside the cart flow.
ReferralAn enrolled Customer invites someone; both can earn balance when the invited person joins or buys.
StackabilityRules for which discounts can combine on the same cart.
LimitsCaps on how often or how much a discount can apply.
Mass / club promotionApplied at checkout with no delivery step. Mass is for every qualifying Customer; club is for enrolled members only.
